Most stains can be removed on your own if you react within the first minutes and avoid a few typical mistakes. That is why we collect upholstery cleaning tips based on what we see every day at our customers' homes in Warsaw, rather than advice copied from other sites, which more often harms than helps.
Each article covers one specific problem: spilled coffee, red wine, a pet odour, a neglected carpet or a mattress nobody has ever cleaned. We always give the order of steps, how much time you have to react and the point at which home methods stop being enough.
How to use these tips
Start with the category that matches your problem: stains, sofas and corner sofas, mattresses or carpets. Inside you will find a step-by-step description and a list of products that actually work on that type of soiling. Before any attempt at cleaning yourself, test on a hidden piece of fabric and judge the result only once it has dried - wet fabric always looks different from dry.
Three rules come back in almost every text. Do not pour water on a stain, because it spreads the soiling over a larger area and pushes it into the padding. Do not rub in circles, because friction destroys the fibre structure and leaves a dull mark. Do not dry with hot air, because heat sets proteins and sugars permanently.
When upholstery cleaning tips are no longer enough
Home methods reach the fabric but not the foam underneath. If the stain returns after drying, the smell comes back in damp weather or the soiling is more than a few weeks old, extraction is needed: the machine injects the solution deep into the padding and immediately pulls it back out together with the dirt.
